| Pinciple: | This human CD48 ELISA Kit is based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for CD48 has been pre-coated onto 96-well plates. Standards and test samples are added to the wells. A biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific forCD48 is added, followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. An Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex is added and the unbound conjugates are washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate (TMB) is used to visualize the HRP enzymatic reaction. The HRP-TMB reaction initially produces a blue color that changes yellow upon adding the acidic stop solution. The optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm ± 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the amount of human CD48 within the sample that is captured by the plate. |

| Background: | Serine/threonine - protein kinase receptor R3 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ACVRL1 gene. It is also known as activin receptor - like kinase 1, or ALK1. This gene encodes a type I cell - surface receptor for the TGF - beta superfamily of ligands. It shares with other type I receptors a high degree of similarity in serine - threonine kinase subdomains, a glycine - and serine - rich region (called the GS domain) preceding the kinase domain, and a short C - terminal tail. The encoded protein shares similar domain structures with other closely related ALK or activin receptor - like kinase proteins that form a subfamily of receptor serine/threonine kinases. Mutations in this gene are associated with hemorrhagic telangiectasia type 2, also known as Rendu - Osler - Weber syndrome 2. |
