Coffee Makers Possess Rich Brew of Bacteria

Sampling home-brew coffee makers, researchers found a rich brew - pun intended - of bacteria. The most commonly found strains included Enterococcus and Pseudomonas. The researchers from the Universitat de València sampled the catch trays of 10 Nespresso espresso machines and found 9 harbored a thriving microbiome. There were no helath concers as none of the coffee packets sampled contained bacteria and the recommendation is to simply clean the tray with hot, soapy water.  However, it does suggest another possible avenue for decaffeinating coffee.
